Community and corporate support helped make this project a reality. The original project idea began in November 2004, after the citizens of Pflugerville honored a local Marine who gave his life in service to his country. After his funeral, grateful citizens wondered if Pflugerville had lost others in defense of freedom, but there was no public record of local soldiers lost in combat. A group of citizens met in January 2005 to plan a way to memorialize such sacrifices. The memorial designed was based upon researched oral histories. Multiple fundraising venues supported this $100,000 project come to life in Pfluger Park on its dedication November 11, 2005. Additional information is located at www.fallenwarriormemorial.com.
The Texan Patriot Network is dedicated to sending care packages to our troops in the Middle East. The donation bins are placed throughout the community. The website (www.texaspatriotnetwork.org) has the list of items for the packages and the link to request a package sent to a particular person. The Pflugerville and Round Rock City Councils proclaimed September as "Remember the Troops Month" in conjunction with this effort. The local newspapers and stations were generous with publicity and the inital goal was surpassed by the end of February. over 300 care packages were sent to our troops to date.
Thank you for memorializing this piece of local history while supporting the arts!
